coffee time

A man died and went to straight down to hell. The devil greeted him and
gave him a guided tour of the place. He told the man that there were three
rooms he could chose from in which to spend eternity.

The first room was full of flames so hot the man couldn't even breathe. He
told the devil that there was no way he was choosing that room. So they
moved on.

The next room they came to was full of people who were being beaten and
tortured. It looked so painful the man could not watch. He told the devil he
definitely didn't want that room, and they moved on.

The last room they came to was full of people who were just sitting around
drinking coffee and relaxing. The only thing was that they were standing
around in about two feet of poop. The man looked for a while and then told
the devil this room would be all right.

The devil gestured for him to sit down and the man took a seat. He did, sipped his coffee and felt really pleased with his choice. After a few minutes, a voice came over the loudspeaker and said, "Break time is over! Back on your heads!"

Just for this evening when I run my finger through your hair as you pray, I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given. MBA Exam

ONE NIGHT 4 MBA STUDENTS WERE BOOZING TILL LATE NIGHT AND DIDN'T STUDY FOR THE TEST WHICH WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE NEXT DAY. IN THE MORNING THEY THOUGHT OF A PLAN. THEY MADE THEMSELVES LOOK AS DIRTY AND WEIRD AS THEY COULD WITH GREASE AND DIRT. THEY THEN WENT UP TO THE DEAN AND SAID THAT THEY HAD GONE OUT TO A WEDDING LAST NIGHT AND ON THEIR RETURN THE TYRE OF THEIR CAR BURST AND THEY HAD TO PUSH THE CAR ALL THE WAY BACK AND THAT THEY WERE IN NO CONDITION TO APPEAR FOR THE TEST.

THEN DEAN WAS A JUST PERSON SO HE SAID THAT YOU CAN HAVE THE RETEST AFTER 3 DAYS. THEY SAID THEY WILL BE READY BY THAT TIME.

ON THE THIRD DAY THEY APPEARED BEFORE THE DEAN. THE DEAN SAID THAT THIS WAS A SPECIAL CONDITION TEST. ALL FOUR WERE REQUIRED TO SIT IN SEPARATE CLASSROOMS FOR THE TEST. THEY ALL AGREED AS THEY HAD PREPARED WELL IN THE LAST THREE DAYS.

THE TEST CONSISTED OF 2 QUESTIONS WITH TOTAL OF 100 MARKS.

As you know chemical released by plastic water bottles can cause cancer (It is not the water that affects you but the chemical released from the bottle) How to avoid: Check the bottom of the bottle there should be a triangle sign and there will be a number on it. If the number is higher than or equal to 5 --> then this bottle is safe to use. Numbers under 5 will release the chemical. For most bottled water, the number is 1. I visited Jamshedpur over the weekend to see for myself an India that is fastdisappearing despite all the wolf-cries of people like Narayanamurthy and hisilk. It is one thing to talk and quite another to do and I am delighted to tellyou that Ratan Tata has kept alive the legacy of perhaps India?s finestindustrialist J.N. Tata. Something that some people doubted when Ratan tookover the House of the Tatas but in hindsight, the best thing to have happenedto the Tatas is unquestionably Ratan. I was amazed to see the extent ofcorporate philanthropy and this is no exaggeration.For the breed that talks about corporate social responsibility and talks aboutthe role of corporate India, a visit to Jamshedpur is a must. Go there and seethe amount of money they pump into keeping the town going; see the smilingfaces of workers in a region known for industrial unrest; see the standard ofliving in a city that is almost isolated from the mess in the rest of thecountry.This is not meant to be a puff piece. I have nothing to do with Tata Steel, butI strongly believe the message of hope and the message of goodness that theyare spreading is worth sharing. The fact that you do have companies in Indiawhich look at workers as human beings and who do not blow their softwaretrumpet of having changed lives. In fact, I asked Mr Muthurman, the ManagingDirector, as to why he was so quiet about all they had done and all he couldoffer in return was a smile wrapped in humility, which said it all. They havedone so much more since I last visited Jamshedpur, which was in 1992. The townhas obviously got busier but the values thankfully haven't changed. The food isstill as amazing as it always was and I gorged, as I would normally do. Ivisited the plant and the last time I did that was with Russi Mody.But the plant this time was gleaming and far from what it used to be. Greenerand cleaner and a tribute to environment management. You could have been in themountains. Such was the quality of air I inhaled! There was no belching smoke;no tired faces and so many more women workers, even on the shop floor. This istrue gender equality and not the kind that is often espoused at seminarsorganized by angry activists. I met so many old friends. Most of them have agedbut not grown old. There was a spring in the air which came from a certaincalmness which has always been the hallmark of Jamshedpur and something Isavoured for a full two days in between receiving messages of how boring anddecrepit the Lacklustre Fashion Weak was. It is at times such as this that ourcity lives seems so meaningless. Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata had created anedifice that is today a robust company and it is not about profits and aboutvaluation. It is not about who becomes a millionaire and who doesn?t. It isabout getting the job done with dignity and respect keeping the age-old valuesintact and this is what I learnt.I jokingly asked someone as to whether they ever thought of joining an Infosysor a Wipro and pat came the reply: "We are not interested in becomingcrorepatis but in making others crorepatis," which is exactly what the Tatashave done for years in and around Jamshedpur. Very few people know thatJamshedpur has been selected as a UN Global Compact City, edging out the othernominee from India, Bangalore; selected because of the quality of life, becauseof the conditions of sanitation and roads and welfare. If this is not a tributeto industrial India, then what is? Today, India needs several Jamshedpurs butit also needs this Jamshedpur to be given its fair due recognition. I am tiredof campus visits being publicised to the Infosys and the Wipros of the world.Modern India is being built in Jamshedpur as we speak. An India built on thestrength of core convictions and nothing was more apparent about that than theexperiment with truth and reality that Tata Steel is conducting at Pipla.Forty-eight tribal girls (yes, tribal girls who these corrupt and evilpoliticians only talk about but do nothing for) are being educated through aresidential program over nine months. I went to visit them and I spoke to themin a language that they have just learnt: Bengali. Eight weeks ago, they couldonly speak in Sainthali, their local dialect. But today, they are brimming witha confidence that will bring tears to your eyes. It did to mine.One of them has just been selected to represent Jharkand in the state archerycompetition. They have their own women?s football team and what?s more theyare now fond of education. It is a passion and not a burden. This was possiblebecause I guess people like Ratan Tata and Muthurman haven?t sold their soulsto some business management drivel, which tells us that we must only do businessand nothing else. The fact that not one Tata executive has been touched by theNaxalites in that area talks about the social respect that the Tatas haveearned.The Tatas do not need this piece to be praised and lauded. My intent is to sharethe larger picture that we so often miss in the haze of the slime and sleazethat politics imparts. My submission to those who use phrases such as"feel-good" and "India Shining" to first visit Jamshedpur to understand what itall means. See Tata Steel in action to know what companies can do if they wishto. And what corporate India needs to do. Murli Manohar Joshi would be betteroff seeing what Tata Steel has done by creating the Xavier Institute of TribalEducation rather than by proffering excuses for the imbroglio in the IIMs. Thisis where the Advanis and Vajpayees need to pay homage. Not to all the Sai Babasand the Hugging saints that they are so busy with. India is changing in spiteof them and they need to realise that. I couldn't have spent a more humane andwonderful weekend. Jamshedpur is an eye-opener and a role model, which shouldbe made mandatory for replication. I saw corporate India actually participatein basic nation-building, for when these tribal girls go back to theirvillages, they will return with knowledge that will truly be life-altering.Corporate India can do it but most of the time is willing to shy away. For thosecorporate leaders who are happier winning awards and being interviewed on theirchoice of clothes, my advise is visit Tata Steel, spend some days at Jamshedpurand see a nation's transformation. That is true service and true nationalism.Tata Steel will celebrate 100 years of existence in 2007. It won't be just amilestone in this company's history. It will be a milestone, to my mind ofcorporate transparency and generosity in this country. It is indeed fittingthat Ratan Tata today heads a group which has people who are committed tonation-building than just building influence and power. JRD must be smilingwherever he is. And so must Jamsetji Nusserwanji. These people today haveliterally climbed every last blue mountain. And continue to do so with vigourand passion. Thank God for the Tatas!

Around two weeks ago I was called to judge a talent contest at one of the city colleges. I noticed all the participants were given slips of paper with a topic written on it and told to come up and speak for three minutes. Lots were drawn as to who would be the first speaker and the next and the next. The first contestant I noticed looked a little disgruntled as he got onto the podium to address the others. "My fellow students and respected judges," he said loudly, "this is an unfair contest!" I, along with my fellow judges looked up surprised. "I have been given this paper," he continued, "to speak on a subject with just a few minutes preparation whereas those after me have more time to work on their speech. This is unfair!" He then proceeded to leave the stage and stormed out of the hall. Nobody missed him and the contest went on smoothly. I met him on the landing as I was being escorted out later. "Who said life is fair?" I asked him with a smile. He looked at me startled and I asked him to walk with me to my car. "Life," I told him, "is fighting the unfair and still winning! Do you read automobile magazines?" "Yes," he said eagerly, "I do." "Have you seen statistics shown when a new car is being introduced into the market? They talk about speed and torque and transmission and horse power." "Yes," he nodded. "But there is a line they put after all these figures. They say all this data is when there are ideal road conditions!" "Yes," he said again. "Show me ideal road conditions?" I asked him and he smiled. "The car that sells well," I continued, "is the car that will deliver power and speed and durability in the worst of roads, in potholes and mud and slush. That car is a winner!" We had reached my car and he stood by my side as I heaved myself in. "Don't look for ideal playing conditions," I said. "Fight the unfair and come out a winner!" Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it. In his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days and weeks passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you." Epilogue: There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy. "Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present."

They Would Make Duplicates Of Credit Cards Used By Customers At A Juhu Hotel TIMES NEWS NETWORK Mumbai: The next time you decide to use your credit card on a shopping trip, think again. The Mumbai police have busted a hitech credit card fraud which they believe is the crime of the future. Four gadget-savvy youngsters from Andheri, two of them software engineers, got together to earn a quick buck and ended up ripping off over Rs 3 lakh of citizens' money. The foursome were arrested bythe Juhu police on Tuesday. Interestingly, one of the boys was all set to leave for the United States for a job in a wellplaced computer firm. According to the poli ce, the mastermind of the gang is 19-year-old Leo Paul. A second-year engineering student at a Bandra college,Paul had read about a magnetic card-reading device which could storedata once you swipe a card through it. Data from at least 12 such cards could be stored at a time. Paul realised that if credit cards were swiped though the machine, the personal data of a customer stored on it could be accessed. He then teamed with Akash Kamble, a 19-year-old Lokhandwala resident, and ordered the card-reader from USA, using the internet, since it's not available in India. "The boys befriended a waiter at Kings International hotel at Juhuto take their plan ahead. Every time someone ate a meal in the hoteland paid by credit card, the waiter would discreetly swipe it through the magnetic card-reader, which is no more than 6-inches long and can be stored in the pocket,'' said investigating officer Ramesh Nangare. Once the waiter was done, he would hand over the device to Paul who would download the data from the cards on to Kamble's personal computer. The duo would then feed the data into blank cards, available in the grey market. The cards were now ready to be used inshopping malls and theatres, or to withdraw money from an ATM. Senior inspector Pradeep Shinde said that the boys forged information from more than 22 cards in this manner. The fraud came to light after officials from HSBC bank complained to the police. The cops quizzed customers whose cards had been duplicated and discovered they had all visited Hotel Kings International and paid by credit card. Investigators then caught the waiter who led them tothe four youngsters. Paul, Kamble and the two other collegians identified as Manoj Chauhan (24) and Mahesh Valani (20), have been remanded to police custody. NEW-AGE CRIME A portable magnetic cardreader can store data from around a dozen cards tha t have been swiped through it; made in China, the device was bought on the net for Rs 18,000. The card-reader is connected to a computer and the entire data is transferred there. The data is then stored in blank cards available in the grey market. These duplicate cards can now be used to buy a fortune and also withdraw money from ATMs.

He took the 250-page manuscript to be copied, only to have it reduced to 50,000 strips of paper in seconds when a worker confused the copier with the shredder Iraqi terrorist, Khay Rahnajet, didn't pay enough postage on a letter bomb. It came back with "return to sender" stamped on it. Forgetting it was the bomb, he opened it and was blown to bits. A doctor in Nairobi successfully removed a bean lodged in a young girl's ear. According to the Daily Nation, when her parents told him they didn't have enough to pay his bill, the doctor "grabbed the child and forced the bean back into her ear..." A man spoke frantically into the phone: "My wife is pregnant and her contractions are only two minutes apart!" "Is this her first child?" the doctor asked. "No, you idiot!" the man shouted. "This is her husband!" In Ohio, an unidentified man in his late twenties walked into a police station with a 9-inch wire protruding from his forehead, and calmly asked officers to give him an X-ray to help him find his brain, which he claimed had been stolen. A 25-year-old Argentine man pushed his 20-year-old wife out of an eighth-floor window after an argument, but her fall was broken when her legs became entangled in power lines below. A police spokesperson told the state-run Telam news agency that when the husband saw the woman dangling beneath him, he apparently tried to throw himself on top of her to finish her off. He missed, however, and fell to his death. Meanwhile, the woman managed to swing over to a nearby balcony and was saved.

It seems that the crew of a military cargo jet had stolen a cow they found wandering on a Siberian airfield, and loaded it aboard. While cruising at 30,000 feet, the terrified cow ran amok and jumped out of the plane.
